In 2011, the Georgia Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded the CCBA an oral history grant in the amount of $2500. Initial stories of the “Augusta Chinese American Oral History Project,” and the CCBA’s internal exhibit were presented at the National Archives at Atlanta. Former president and current CCBA historian, Dr. Raymond Rufo, was in charge of the oral history project.
The original Oral History project was completed around 2011-2012 and is a collection of interviews of individuals who either immigrated to Augusta, Georgia from China, and/or grew up in Augusta during the early to mid-twentieth century. You can listen to them tell their story in their own words of their experiences growing up in Augusta, the challenges, the changes, the successes, and the accomplishments. Many of you or your family members were interviewed for this project and shared treasured family photos so please be sure to share this with others and generations to come.
