Historical Marker Approval and Grant Award

IT’S A GREAT DAY FOR CCBA!

The CCBA Board is thrilled to share some very exciting news with everyone. Subcommittees have been working on two major projects over the last 2 years and the hard work, dedication and countless hours spent have paid off well.

As a way to permanently commemorate the people and events that established the Augusta Chinese Benevolent Association as one of the oldest Asian organizations in the southeast, chartered in 1927, we applied for a Georgia Historical Marker. On August 5th, the Georgia Historical Society approved our application. We will begin working on the details of the marker and a dedication ceremony when the marker is installed.

The dedication ceremony will be held on May 19, 2023, at 11 a.m.

February 2023 update

The other major project was to obtain funding for the marker.  Si-Long Chen initiated a grant proposal on behalf of the CCBA seeking funding for the marker, dedication ceremony, Chinese history town hall and exhibit. The Porter Fleming Foundation awarded the CCBA a grant for $6,500 to fund the project.  We thank Si-Long and her committee for dedicating themselves to this effort and being a champion!

Thank you to the Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County for selecting the Augusta Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association as a grant awardee of the Porter Fleming Foundation in March of 2022. Our organization has provided a welcoming place for people of Chinese descent since 1927. We have also been a facilitator for people who are interested in Chinese culture to congregate and celebrate Chinese art, traditions, and history.

The grant will be crucial to help us in establishing a historical marker with the Georgia Historical Society, a dedication ceremony of the marker, and a local Augusta Chinese history presentation and photographic exhibition.
